Comparison of CNC Flame Cutting And Plasma Cutting

Metal cutting is a necessary process for most metal processing, for example, in plate processing, we need to first cut the steel plate into the approximate shape we need, and then finish the required parts. CNC flame/plasma cutting using digital motion control system, by writing machining programs in the system or processing files or graphics, combined with stepper or servo motor driver, drive stepper or servo motor to control the machining shaft of the machine tool to achieve movement, it can achieve the flame/plasma cutting processing technology, The desired metal shape is cut through a flammable gas or plasma arc. WINCOO Engineering Co., Ltd. specializes in the production and research and development of CNC cutting machines, the following CNC flame cutting and CNC plasma cutting advantages and disadvantages to give you a summary:

CNC flame cutting: CNC flame cutting is a cutting method of CNC machine tools using gas with oxygen or gasoline with oxygen to cut metal materials.

Advantages:

1, Can cut very thick carbon steel, its cutting range is very wide;

2, The price of the flame cutting machine is relatively low, and the initial investment cost is also low.

Disadvantages:

1, Cutting required preheating and perforating time is long, cutting speed is slow;

2, The thermal deformation during cutting is large, especially when cutting thin plates, the cutting accuracy is not high.

3, It is not possible to cut non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminum and stainless steel.

4, The way of burning fuel is more serious pollution to the environment and is not environmentally friendly.

Although CNC flame cutting sheet has been gradually replaced by plasma cutting in the cutting field, CNC flame cutting is still in a pivotal position in cutting thick and medium plates, and flame cutting has always occupied a certain market share in thin plate cutting with its price advantage.

CNC plasma arc cutting: CNC plasma arc cutting is a processing method in which CNC machine tools use the heat of high temperature plasma arc to melt (and evaporate) the metal parts at the incision of the workpiece, and use the momentum of high-speed plasma to exclude molten metal to form a incision.

Advantages:

1, Wide cutting field, can cut all metal sheet;

2, High cutting speed, high efficiency;

3, Cutting accuracy is higher than flame cutting, underwater cutting without deformation, fine plasma cutting is more accurate.

Disadvantages:

1, Cutting medium plate, thick plate is more difficult, requires a large power plasma power supply, high cost.

2, When cutting thick plates, cut into a V shape.

Plasma cutting under water can eliminate the noise, dust, harmful gas and arc pollution generated during cutting, and effectively improve the environment of the workplace. The use of fine plasma cutting can make the cutting quality close to the laser cutting level, at present, with the maturity of high-power plasma cutting technology, the cutting thickness becomes larger, but also makes the cutting range of CNC plasma cutting machine has been broadened.
